JOIN OUR SMALL TEAM

We’re all volunteers at NILE Magazine. We do it to create an Egyptology magazine that’s fascinating AND fabulous, with the highest-quality articles that make you go ‘wow’ with each page, and that remind you of why you fell in love with ancient Egypt in the first place.

It’s a small team with big plans, so if you’re interested in sharing your passion and expertise with ancient Egypt buffs around the world, then we’d love to hear from you.

Some of the areas we particularly need help with right now are:

  • RESEARCH
If you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE doing research on almost any aspect of ancient Egypt, discovering fascinating nuggets and tracking down hard-to-find texts and images, then this job is for you!

  • SOCIAL MEDIA
Every issue of NILE Magazine is jam-packed with amazing photography and fascinating stories. Would you like to help share them to NILE’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages?

  • HIEROGLYPHS
One of the things that sets NILE Magazine apart is that we include the hieroglyphic signs for ancient Egyptian texts that are included in articles. Not only is it great for those learning hieroglyphs, but readers get to hear from the ancient Egyptians in their own words, er hieroglyphs. But I do need help tracking down published texts. If you love hieroglyphs and the thrill of the chase, then you’ll enjoy this.

  • FEATURE WRITING
Particularly covering the latest news and discoveries. The NILE style is “smart casual” - factually sound with a creative flair. As we say here at NILE, “Neither stuffy nor fluffy”. Have a look at the “Latest Discoveries” piece in any issue of NILE and you’ll get an idea for the engaging, inclusive approach we are looking for.

  • THE NILE QUIZ
Love quizzes? Want to give other readers’ brain cells a workout? Each quiz is based on the articles in that issue, so you be sent advance drafts of the articles to draw your quiz questions from.

  • EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS
This part of the magazine lets everyone know what’s on, where. This gig is all about seeking out the new exhibitions and events when they are announced and feeding the information through to your editor.

  • PHOTOSHOP
Photos occasionally need a little photoshop work - usually to remove backgrounds so that objects stand out to their best effect. If you’re a dab hand at Photoshop and would like to help out from time to time, let me know at the email address below.

  • PROOFING
We have a fabulous proofer who pores lovingly over every word, but it’s a big job, and we’d like to share it around. If you are a stickler for spelling and a gun for grammar, then you’ll love this job. Plus, you get to see every article before everyone else!

  • MAGAZINE TRAILERS
Yep, like a book trailer that you may have seen online, but for NILE Magazine instead. We’d like to release it as each issue is published to share the magic and mystery of ancient Egypt - oh, and NILE Magazine of course. If short, professional videos are your thing, then I’d love to hear from you.

  • WHAT ELSE?
If you don’t see a position here that fits you but you would still like to help, please feel free to contact us at the email address below.

IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER
We do have publishing deadlines, so a crucial quality is reliability. Please consider seriously whether you have the time and passion to commit.

As I mentioned, we are all volunteers at NILE. You definitely won’t be paid, but I can certainly sort you out with a complimentary subscription to your favourite Egyptology magazine!

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION
Your editor is based in sunny Australia. Both our proofer extraordinaire and language specialist are in the U.S., and NILE is printed in the U.K. We all work from home and collaborate online, so it really doesn’t matter where in the world you are.

QUALIFICATIONS?
There are no degrees required to be part of the NILE team. You just need to be good at what you do, to want to do it within the NILE Magazine style guide, and be keen to open up future NILEs and be able to say, “I did that.”

KEEN? THEN HERE’S THE EMAIL ADDRESS:
editor [at] nilemagazine.com.au.

We have a lot of fun here at NILE, we all love ancient Egypt, and we love publishing an amazing-looking magazine that adds value to the world of Egyptology. If we sound like your kind of people, then I look forward to hearing from you.
